Triple H gives The Rock a high knee to the face, and then he pins him for a two count. Triple H hits The Rock with some right hands, and then The Rock fires back with some right hands of his own, and Triple H whips The Rock off the ropes, and Triple H catches The Rock in a sleeper hold. Shawn Michaels gets in the face of Triple H for using illegal tactics, and then The Rock nails Triple H with some right hands, and Triple H gives The Rock another sleeper hold, but The Rock counters with a belly to belly suplex. The Rock pins Triple H For a two count, and that was a long two count. The Rock goes for a float over DDT, but they screw it up, and The Rock then nails Triple H with a DDT and he pins him for a three count, and it's now 2 vs. 3 in favor of Triple H. The Rock and Triple H fight to the outside of the ring, and The Rock slams Triple H's head into the table. Triple H grabs a chair, but Shawn stops him from using it. The Rock slams Triple H into the steel steps, and the sound of it was sickening! Triple H whips The Rock into the security wall, and The Rock fires back on Triple H with a spinning neck breaker. Triple H uses a steel chair on The Rock in the ring, and Shawn Michaels calls for the bell, and The Rock gets the fall by disqualification. That ties it up, and then Triple H pins The Rock and he puts his feet on the ropes and gets a three count. The Rock's head is busted open from the chair shot, and he is slow to get back to his feet. Shawn checks on The Rock, and then Triple H stomps on The Rock. Triple H helps The Rock back to his feet, and then he whips him off the ropes and gives him a sleeper hold in the middle of the ring. Shawn checks the hand of The Rock as Triple H has a sleeper on him, and The Rock is able to get back up and give Triple H some shots to the mid section. The Rock nails Triple H with some right hands, and then Triple H goes right back to the sleeper hold. Triple H gets a fall with the sleeper hold, and Shawn gets Triple H off of The Rock. Triple H shoves Shawn Michaels, and Shawn shoves him back and the fans go nuts! The two continue to shove each other and Triple H goes after The Rock, and Triple H fires back with some right hands, and he backs him into the corner and stomps away on him. The Rock whips Triple H into the corner and Triple H flies to the outside of the ring and The Rock goes right after him! Triple H and The Rock get back in the ring, and Triple H tries to pin The Rock, but he only gets a two count. Triple H goes to the top rope, but The Rock knocks him down once again, and The Rock gives Triple H some right hands as he's perched on the top rope. The Rock gets up on the ropes to try to give Triple H a move, but Triple H is able to fight out of it with some right hands, and then a head butt. The Rock then gets up and he gives Triple H a super plex! Both men are down from that one down, and the time left is 8 minutes! The Rock gets an arm over top of Triple H and he pins him for a two count, and The Rock gives Triple H an elbow, and then some right hands, followed by a clothesline over the top rope. The Rock goes to the outside of the ring, and he slams Triple H into the steel steps once again, and it's 5 vs. 3 in favor of Triple H, and The Rock has to do everything he can to get at least two more falls over Triple H. The Rock sling shots Triple H into the ring post, and we are under six minutes with both men on the outside of the ring! Triple H starts pulling up the monitors from the announcers table, and Triple H goes over and gets The Rock and it looks like we are going to see some table action. Triple H puts The Rock on the announcer's table and Triple H gets on the table as well, and Triple H goes to give The Rock the Rock Bottom on the table, but The Rock reverses it and The Rock gives Triple H the Pedigree on the table! The Rock gets in the ring, and Shawn counts Triple H out of the ring, and now it's 4 vs. 5 in falls, but Triple H is still in the lead. Triple H's head is busted wide open, and Shane, Vince and Stephanie make their way to the ringside area as we are in the last three minutes of the match! Triple H is slow to get back in the ring, and Shawn starts counting Triple H out of the ring again, and Triple H gets in the ring at the count of 9. The Rock hammers away on Triple H in the corner, and then he nails Triple H with a clothesline! The Rock gives Triple H a DDT, and Shane gets on the apron and The Rock knocks him down, and the same goes for Vince. The Rock gives Triple H the spine buster, and then he goes for the people's elbow and DX is at ringside! The Rock pins Triple H for a three count, and now the falls are tied up! Shane pulls Shawn Michaels out of the ring, and Shawn knocks them both down. The Road Dogg gets in the ring as well as X-Pac, and The Rock takes care of them. As Degeneration X beats up on The Rock, some strange music comes on, and the Undertaker comes out of no where on a motorcycle! The Undertaker goes to work on Degeneration X and the Regime, and he gives Shane McMahon a choke slam! The Undertaker gives Vince a right hand, and then he gives X-Pac a choke slam. Stephanie goes after the Undertaker, and he goes to choke slam her, but Triple H saves her. The Undertaker gives Triple H a choke slam in the middle of the ring and the time has expired! The Undertaker then picks up Triple H and gives him a tombstone piledriver! Shawn gives the fall to Triple H as a result of outside interference. Winner and new WWF Champion, Triple H

Thanks to Jennifer Stevens for last night's Smackdown taping results.
Also, thanks to Sean Liska and RajahWWF for sending along results as well.
I attended the SmackDown tapings on May 23 in Evansville, Indiana. The show was held at the Roberts Municipal
Stadium, an old arena with a small seating capacity but great acoustics. The crowd, for the most part, was very good.
By the time I arrived, most of the wrestlers were already inside the building, but D-Von Dudley, Crash Holly, and a few
others were spied walking around outside. Perry Saturn was sleeping in his car in the loading dock. The evening did not
start off well; the arena doors were scheduled to open at 6 pm central time but stayed locked until nearly 7 pm. The fans
were calm but grew impatient, especially when a thunderstorm broke out about ten minutes before seven. Once we were
allowed inside, I was told that the delay was due to some of the wrestlers, who had been working in the ring. The
Undertaker?s motorcycle was still at ringside when we entered the arena, but was removed soon thereafter.
The ring announcer ran down the basic rules for the evening, and the crowd popped when they noticed themselves on
the OvalTron (which, for the record, was on the right).
Dark Matches
(1) The Dupps defeated Joey Abs and Pete Gas (w/ Rodney). The crowd was very into a big ?Posse sucks? chant.
(2) Todd Morton defeated Bull Pain. Norton looked like a miniature Chris Benoit the way he strutted to the ring, and Bull
Pain reminded me of a hairless Prince Albert (a lot of people in the crowd mistook him for Gillberg initially, though). Some
stiff moves, and both guys looked pretty good.
The announcers for Heat headed to ringside and the pyro was set up. Some of us in the audience wondered if the
fireworks might accidentally blow up the entire arena, the place was so small.
Sunday Night Heat
Eddie Guerrero and Chyna were playing Twister backstage. Someone was yelling at Eddie for being too immature?
Malenko, maybe? I couldn?t tell who it was.
(1) Eddie Guerrero (w/ Chyna) defeated the British Bulldog to retain the WWF European Championship. Eddie got a nice
pop and executed several impressive moves on Bulldog, who got a ?suck? chants. The match ended in a double
disqualification thanks to Guerrero and Bulldog tangling at ringside with Chyna and the ref caught in the middle.
(2) Chris Jericho defeated T & A (w/ Trish Stratus) in a handicap match. T & A got a big pop coming out, but major heat
followed as Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley sat in a recliner in front of the OvalTron to watch the match. Y2J got Test in
the Walls of Jericho but Trish grabbed him by the hair, forcing him to break the hold. Jericho then put Trish into the
submission briefly before Test and Albert recovered to save her. The ref took a bump just before the Hardys ran out to
even the odds. Jeff Hardy hit a senton bomb on either Test or Albert (they looked alike from my nosebleed seats); he
landed a little funny but shook it off and Jericho got the pinfall. Stephanie was pissed.
(3) Rikishi Phatu defeated Gangrel. Buttdriver, stinkyface, sitdown piledriver and this one?s over. I think Gangrel?s
entrance took longer than the actual match.
(4) D?Lo Brown and Saturn defeated the Godfather and Dean Malenko (w/ four hos). The Godfather was way over.
Malenko, concerning the ho train: ?I got on this train, and I?m sure not getting off!? The Radicals/z worked well together
but the Godfather got the biggest pop. Saturn pinned Malenko while the others brawled at ringside. After the match,
Godfather got Malenko to dance with one of the hos onstage.
Smackdown
As the ring was prepared for SmackDown, Lawler came out to the commentary table and Lilian Garcia sang the national
anthem. A large group of cops entered the ring, but at that point the lights went down and Michael Cole announced that
before SmackDown began, we were going to take a special look back at one of the WWF?s superstars, Mick Foley. The
same video retrospective that was used at his retirement was shown, the one set to Sarah McLachlan?s ?I Will Remember
You.? It was followed by a major Foley chant from the live crowd.
Backstage, we saw Vince McMahon arriving and immediately being attacked by the Undertaker, who was doing his best
to run Vince down with the motorcycle. Vince took a few humorous bumps, then stumbled out to the ring, calling out
Undertaker. ?Taker responded and received a huge pop as he walked to the ring. Vince threatened to have the
Undertaker arrested, and added that ?Taker cost the Rock the WWF championship (big ?bullsh*t? chant at that point).
Undertaker revealed that Linda McMahon resigned him to a contract prior to the pay-per-view. The police left Vince to
settle the affair on his own and Undertaker was ready for a big chokeslam, but Shane ran out to save his dad. Great
opening segment.
(1) Edge & Christian defeated Eddie Guerrero & Chyna to retain the WWF Tag Team Championship. Edge and Christian
issued an open challenge to any team they had not yet defeated. This was a very good match; Chyna was extremely
impressive.
Backstage, Crash Holly picked a fight with Faarooq. Bradshaw: ?Remember? he?s just a boy!?
(2) Faarooq defeated Crash Holly in a hardcore match. Bradshaw was on commentary; this match was very quick.
At this point, there was a brief break in the tapings and the ring announcer encouraged us to buy stuff.
Backstage, Triple H and Stephanie arrived in a limo. Gerald Brisco began telling them about what had happened earlier
in the evening.
(3) Hardcore Holly defeated Val Venis and Chris Jericho to become the #1 contender for the WWF Intercontinental title.
The crowd only popped for Jericho during the match, but Val Venis got a very nice cheer when he first entered. Jericho
did another modified tarantula in the ring ropes a la the Judgment Day submission match, but Venis broke it up with a
legdrop across Jericho?s throat in a very cool spot.
After this match, there was a scene backstage featuring the McMahon-Helmsley faction chatting nervously amongst
themselves. As that was going on, Jericho took an ?Evansville is Jericho? sign from someone in the crowd and held it up
to a monstrous pop.
At this point there was a unusually long delay in the tapings. The ring announcer again tried to get us to buy things, and
was met with ?go away? heat.
Backstage, the Rock arrived in a limo but Vince was there to tell him that he wouldn?t be needed. Just before he left,
Rock called Vince over and bitchslapped him in a hilarious spot.
Another delay followed, and the crowd began to get very antsy.
(4) Matt Hardy (w/ Jeff Hardy) defeated Essa Rios (w/ Lita). Some cool high-flying moves in this one, as everyone
expected. Essa attacked Lita after the match, but the Hardys came back to break it up and carried Lita away with them.
Backstage, Triple H, Vince, and the rest were discussing whom they could put against the Undertaker. Triple H suggested
they find someone who matched the Undertaker physically, who knew him inside and out. Everyone in the arena was
muttering for Kane, but Shane ?Giant-Killer? McMahon was singled out instead as the one guy who could put ?Taker in his
place. The expression on Shane?s face was priceless.
(5) Too Cool & the Dudley Boyz defeated Road Dogg, X-Pac, & T & A in an eight-man tag team match. Very fun and
energetic match with lots of good crowd heat. Everyone got a chance to perform his signature move, and Rikishi came
out as well. At the end, the Dudleys did a hilarious dance sequences with Too Cool. Buh Buh Ray Dudley busted out one
hell of a move!
Backstage, Triple H was in Shane?s face, pumping him up for his match against the Undertaker.
(6) Chris Benoit defeated Kurt Angle to retain the WWF Intercontinental championship. Angle cut a good promo and the
match was solid, but the crowd heat wasn?t very good since no one was sure who to cheer for. A disqualification was
announced after Hardcore Holly came out and pasted Angle with a chair. Benoit then returned the favor to Hardcore.
(7) Al Snow (w/ Steve Blackman) defeated Bull Buchanan (w/ the Big Boss Man). This was as bad as it sounds. Actually,
I?m not totally convinced Al Snow won; it might have been Bull? the match was so boring, I honestly didn?t pay attention.
Sorry, Head Cheese fans.
Backstage, Shane was preparing to head for the ring and asked that no one interfere on his behalf. Vince McMahon:
?Does my son have a set of grapefruits or what?? Brisco: ?Just like you, Mr. Mack-mahon!?
This was followed by another long delay. No idea what the problem was.
(8) The Undertaker wrestled Shane McMahon. I don?t know how this ended. Shane was out first and got big heat. The
Undertaker?s pop was incredible and he threw Shane McMahon around the ring like a rag doll. The rest of DX and the
McMahon-Helmsley regime rushed out to help Shane, but just as they took the upper hand, the Rock came out and
helped clear the ring. The Undertaker chased the bad guys to the back on his motorcycle. As the Rock basked in the
crowd?s adulation, the Undertaker returned and the two shook hands. Undertaker left, and the Rock chatted briefly with
the Evansville crowd about poontang pie before going backstage.
Although this was the one-year anniversary of the death of Owen Hart, no mention was made of him throughout the
evening.

WWF close to signing former Heavyweight Champion and more Posted by Patrick OConnor on May 23 WWF close to signing former Heavyweight Champion; New WCW Interviewer; and more! The new World Championship Wrestling female interviewer on Monday Nitro?s name is Pamela Paulshock. She is a fitness model from Los Angeles, California and has appeared on such shows as Shasta McNasty, Mad TV, VIP, and WCW Nitro a former valet for Scott Steiner. She has also appeared on many top fitness magazines, such as, Muscle and Fitness, and several others. Former NCAA Division 1 heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar is close to signing at least a development deal if not more with the World Wrestling Federation. With the recent success of former collegiate wrestler, Kurt Angle, the decision was said to be not hard at all to sign up the young superstar. Here is a list of the top 12 selling video games according to recent data. Two World Wrestling Federation games made the cut, while WCW and ECW still have yet to develop the fan base to have marketable and contestable games. 1. Pokmon Stadium, Nintendo (N64) 2. Excitebike 64, Nintendo (N64) 3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Activision (N64) 4. SW Episode I: Jedi Power Battle, LucasArts (PS) 5. Syphon Filter 2, 989 Studios (PS) 6. WWF Smackdown, THQ (PS) 7. WWF Wrestlemania 2000, THQ (N64)Ken Shamrock News plus WCW Notes Posted by Mark Jackson on May 23 The Asylum cage which was used on Nitro may be used eventually to push Tank Abbot much in the same way that the lions den match was used to push Ken Shamrock. Scott Hall is still rehabbing from his surgery on his neck. He is said to be coming along well. Kimberly is happy with her new role as a heel character. Her one complaint is that she would like to be more active in storylines instead of just being an ?armpiece? for the New Blood. WCW has plans to put the Cat back into action soon. It was mentioned on Nitro that the Cat is the personal karate instructor for Bischoff?s 16 year old son. That established the link between the two and there should be some sort of angle coming from that. There is a proposal to have Ken Shamrock?s next shoot fight be against Mark Coleman. The match would likely take place in August. Thanks to DDT Online and Dave MeltzerWWF News for Tuesday: Chyna, Howard Finkel, Big Show, Q&A and more! Posted by Kevin Gregg on May 23 WWF News for Tuesday: Chyna, Howard Finkel, Big Show, Q&A and more! Lucas is doing the WWF News for Tuesday, and he starts off with information on The Big Show in a music video, and it will be on BET sometime in the afternoon tomorrow. The video is for Sisqo. Chyna appears on Third Rock from the Sun tonight, and that is the Season Finale. Lucas congratulates Howard Finkel as they celebrated his 20 year anniversary with the WWF. Lucas mentions that Phil Spear talked to Howard Finkel, and you can look for an article on that on WWF.com in the near future. Credit: WWF.com's News Segment Ask Kevin: [email protected] Some of these are answered before WWF Judgment Day as I had nothing to do on Saturday, so I went through some Q&A emails! * Question: "I have two questions. First, is there a reason Pillman and Austin broke up as the Hollywood Blondes? And two, what was up with the angle where Pillman pulled a gun on Austin? What happened there? Thanks." * Answer: I don't know for sure why they were broken up, but every time I hear about why they broke up is because they were getting too popular. I know that sounds like a stupid reason, and it may just be a way to bash WCW, but that's the reason that I have heard everywhere. The Austin Bio, WWF Magazines and such. The angle with Pillman pulling a gun on Austin was when Stone Cold Steve Austin broke into the house of Brian Pillman, and Pillman pulled a gun on Austin to protect himself. * Question: "Not that I ever would but just for arguments sake, if I were to do the Rock Bottom, or Stone Cold Stunner, or Sharpshooter on someone, would it actually hurt the person?" * Answer: Yes, if you do them right. You can also hurt someone if you do them wrong, too. The Sharpshooter really hurts if you get it on right. * Question: "What ever happened to the trainer that Stephanie introduced, I think she was on TV just that one night." * Answer: She was on an edition of WWF Sunday Night Heat, and I think an edition of Smackdown!. I am not sure what happened to her and why she isn't on T.V. anymore. Perhaps the WWF is just waiting for the right time to bring her back in. The gimmick could have gone over entertaining. * Question: "When will Ken Shamrock return to the WWF...I heard in Fall 2000, what do you think?" * Answer: Not anytime this year. I am hearing that he won't return until next year. * Question: "I was wondering what you think the future holds for the Headbangers, They are my favorite Tag Team and I would really like to see them get going again." * Answer: If I could give you a straight answer, I would. Recent Internet rumors state that they are not on good terms with the WWF and are on their way out. I don't know if that is true or not, but I wish the Headbangers would take on a more serious approach to their being a tag team. I think it's ridiculous that they come out wearing cones. Sure, it may have been funny once, but that's about it. It's old, stale, boring, and no one cares. I like the Headbangers as well, but if they were to leave the WWF, in my eyes, it wouldn't be a big loss. * Question: "Hey Kevin. I really really miss Mick Foley in the WWF as I was always a huge fan of his. I was just wondering if you could tell me the dates of the shows where each of Mick Foley's personas debuted in the WWF? I seem to recall that Cactus Jack made his first appearance in a no DQ match against Hunter Hearst Helmsley in MSG but I am unsure about the exact date. thanks :)" * Answer: Cactus Jack's WWF debut was against Triple H in a No DQ match at MSG, yes, and the date was September 22, 1997. Dude Love debuted on RAW is WAR to team with Stone Cold Steve Austin against Owen Hart and the British Bulldog for the WWF Tag Team Championship belts. The date for that was, July 14, 1997. The debut of Mankind in the World Wrestling Federation took place the night after Wrestlemania 12. The date for that was April 1, 1996. * Question: "Hey Kev, why the hell does WCW copy WWF so much? Are they doing it as a joke or something, because they're just pathetic!" * Answer: In the eyes of Vince Russo, they are not copying the WWF. He is just using the creative formula that he used while he was in the World Wrestling Federation, so to him, it's not copying. I think that if Vince Russo were this creative genius that many claims for him to be, then he should be able to come up with something new, something that doesn't look like the World Wrestling Federation. Red ropes on Nitro? That has RAW written all over it. They should have stuck to the black. Blue ropes on Thunder? *cough* Smackdown! *cough*. * Question: "I was watching the 1999 Royal Rumble and I was wondering why Michael Cole was announcing instead of Jim Ross?" * Answer: Jim Ross suffered from an attack of Bells Palsy at the end of 1998, so Michael Cole took his place for a while going into Wrestlemania. Jim Ross commentated during the main event for Wrestlemania, and shortly after, he was brought back as a full time commentator. * Question: "I see the Dudleys as one tag team that really should never break up. I say this because their finisher requires both of them and they work well together. However, do you ever foresee a breakup sometime in the future, or do you feel they'd be better off together?" * Answer: That's the problem with the Dudley Boyz. As good as they are as a tag team, where does it go from there? Can they go their separate ways and have success? They seem like they would never break up, like you said, and they seem right for the tag team division. Buh Buh has used the Buh Buh Cutter as a finisher when in singles action, so if they do split ever, I'm sure finishing moves wouldn't be a problem. I don't see them breaking up anytime soon, but when is the last time a team in major angles actually stuck together throughout their entire careers? I do think that they will be better off together. * Question: "Hey, do you think that D'Lo Brown wasn't pushed last year because he injured Droz?? Also, why did Goldust leave the WWF and where is the bloke who played Henry Godwinn?" * Answer: I don't think that the reason D'Lo Brown hasn't gotten a push is because of his injuring Droz. It probably has to do with other things that I am unsure of. I heard that Goldust left the WWF because he wasn't going to be elevated anytime soon, much like Jeff Jarrett. I could be wrong, though. Mark Canterbury is who played Henry Godwinn, and I am not sure where he is right now. He left the WWF, because of the severe neck injury that he sustained at the hands of the Legion of Doom, and that injury may have taken him out of wrestling in general. * Question: "When any wrestler dies, it's tragic, but why would the WWF make a bigger deal of Owen Hart's death than they did Rick Rude or Brian Pillman?" * Answer: It's possibly because Owen Hart died in the ring while wrestling for the World Wrestling Federation, and it's also possible because so many were so close to Owen Hart in the locker room. In my eyes, the death of Owen Hart has been the biggest death in wrestling to date. I am still not over the death of Owen Hart, and I miss him dearly. * Question: "How come a while back when it was The Rock vs. The Dudleys in a table match, Rock had to slam both of them through a table to win, but when it was T&A and Brisco Vs. either the Big Show or the Dudleys ((sorry I forget which ones)) He won with only slamming Test through....was it some kind of stipulation?!" * Answer: It was a "screw The Rock" stipulation. * Question: "now that undertaker made his debut will he be back for good?" * Answer: Yes, unless for some reason he gets injured again. * Question: "Do u like Diamond Dallas Page?" * Answer: As a wrestler, no. After going to his web site and seeing him rip into Wade Keller, I worship him for that. I really dislike Wade Keller's "news", because it's always false. Yeah, D'Lo Brown went to WCW, didn't he, Wade? Right. * Question: "Don't you feel bad that ALL of you Judgment Day predictions (except for the Jericho/Benoit match) were all wrong? How come you always doubt the "Game" winning or retaining the WWF championship?" * Answer: Nope. It makes for a better show when I think who is going to win doesn't. It's more surprising, and for that reason, Judgment Day was a great show. When I doubt Triple H, it's not because I think he is bad or anything, because he is great. It's because I thought that they were going to give The Rock a decent title reign, instead of just a month. * Question: "Did Undertaker show up at Judgment Day ??" * Answer: Uh, yes. * Question: "I remember a while back the WWF had something called the Brawl For All where wrestlers would become boxers and fight in the ring. It looked real and Bart Gun won it, then he lost to Butterbean at Wrestlemania. I haven't seen Bart Gun in the WWF since then. Since Bart Gun lost to Butterbean I doubt we will ever see him back in the WWF, but do you think the WWF will ever bring back or the Brawl For All?" * Answer: Never say never, but I'd lean towards no. * Question: "Great column. Now I know you hate Jeff Jarrett. But WCW have done one good thing. Shaken off that bloody stupid Country music star gimmick. This has given him the chance to have decent theme music. His is my favorite at the moment. Which theme is your favorite? Also Don't you think Kaientai would be better with Taka's old music?" * Answer: You people have me totally wrong. I do not hate Jeff Jarrett. He is a great worker, but I do not think that he is a main event caliber wrestler. My favorite music would have to be the Undertaker's theme from WWF The Music Volume 3. It's the best I have heard yet. Current theme would have to go to Chris Jericho. I am not sure what you mean by "Taka's old music." As far as I can remember, he's only had one theme.
WCW: SPOILER THUNDER RESULTS

Thunder Tapings
May 23, 1999
Saginaw, MI
Saginaw Civic Center
JPVampiro reporting.
Saginaw has always had "hot" crowds for wrestling. I've been to two live Nitros and one other Thunder taping (when the
show was really bad in August of 1999). Even then the crowd was quite live. Tonight was no exception. Below are the
"spoilers". I got all of the matches, but some of the backstage interviews are not included.
WCW Worldwide Tapings
Crowbar defeated Mike Sanders
Good match with a lot of chair shots. Back and forth action until Crowbar won via pinfall. Crowbar got a really good
babyface pop.
Mamalukes defeated Chris Harris & Cassidy O'Reilly
Not a bad match, but the crowd wasn't as into it. Big Vito got a good response and Johnny the Bull got a few nice cheers
when he hit his trademark "no-handed" leg drop from the top rope. He tried it again later, but needed to grab the ropes
for support. Tough move.
Juventud Guerrera defeated Allan Funk
Juvi did his "finally the juice has come back to?" Rock impersonation. Allan Funk came out in a lace purple skirt over his
wrestling trunks. Bert Prentice was right about this guy, he had instant heat as soon as he started talking on the mic.
Good match with the crowd largely into it. "Faggot" chants for Funk started midway through the match and continued until
Juvi pinned him.
WCW Thunder Tapings
Daffney defeated Chris Candido and The Artist in a three-way match
This was for the Cruiserweight title. For the most part, Candido and TAFKAPI concentrated on each other. Daffney would
pull one off of the other whenever there was a pinning situation. Miss Hancock also came out for this one and gave her
clipboard to Tammy in exchange for money. Crowbar helped out Daffney, and she won when Tammy tried to hit her with
the clipboard and accidentally hit Candido instead. The crowd wasn't really into this one as there was too much going on.
Daffney had on this black gown that got some "Morticia" chants from the crowd.
Terry Funk defeated Shane Douglas and Norman Smiley in a three-way match
This was for the Hardcore title. Earlier, Norman and Ralphus were selling shampoo and other assorted products outside.
Douglas said he had connections with Eric Bischoff and would get them back in the company, and he would be gracious
enough to give them a two-on-one shot at the title. Douglas came out and gave a terrific promo that got a lot of crowd
response. Norman and Funk came out together, with Funk in a gorilla suit and a Ralphus shirt on. Funk sold his part as
Ralphus, shying away from any physical confrontation. After a good match between Douglas and Smiley, Funk clobbered
Douglas with a chair and pinned him for the title. Funk then took off the mask to reveal his true identity. Crowd was into
this one, especially the comedy spots when Funk was acting as Ralphus would.
Vince Russo Interview
The first interview of the evening was with Russo and David Flair. Russo brought in Reid Flair's teacher to reveal exactly
what kind of kid Reid really was. Couldn't hear most of it, as Russo and Flair got a lot of crowd heat.
At the end of the interview, Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash came out to huge pops. They leveled R&B security and forced
Russo alone in the ring. Russo was hiding behind the old lady the entire time until Nash told him "they just wanted to
talk". As soon as Russo let her go, Nash grabbed him by the throat and threw him down. With both Steiner and Nash on
top of him, they forced Russo into making a three-way Heavyweight title match with Jeff Jarrett for the main event. A very
good, intense segment.
Eight man elimination match between the Filthy Animals and the Misfits in Action
Much like the opener, this match was convoluted and was hard to follow. Konnan must have been hurt in the opening
brawl because he left holding his ribs before being pinned (although at this time Major Gunns was standing right in front
of us and it was difficult to keep our eyes on the match). Order of elimination: Lash LeRoux; Van Hammer; Disco Inferno;
and Juventud Guerrera. It was a good match up until this point when Shawn Stasiak ran in and started beating on Hugh
Morrus. Booker T then made the save to help Morrus, in the meantime Ray Misterio and Chavo Guerrero were fighting
one another. Match ended abruptly, and I can't say if there was a clear winner. Crowd had a difficult time booing Misterio.
It was rather funny, he would be cheered until he grabbed a foreign object and used it, and then the crowd was forced to
into not liking him. Then later on he would be cheered again.
Chuck Palumbo defeated The Wall in a Tables Match
This was probably the flattest match of the night, although the crowd was into it at times. Palumbo won when he nailed
the Wall with his exercise bar and forced the Wall off of the apron onto a table. Palumbo posed for the crowd for a while
until the Wall recovered and chased him out.
Eric Bischoff Interview
Bischoff came out to a lot of "a**hole" chants and praised Billy Kidman and Horace Hogan about the quality of their New
Blood team. Bischoff then let Horace say a few words degrading Hulk Hogan, and then abruptly took the mic back.
Bischoff then challenged anyone to face his team.
Billy Kidman and Horace Hogan defeated Kronic
Kronic answered the challenge with a non-title match. Horace teased a turn throughout the entire match by refusing to
tag-in and allowing Kronic to annihilate Kidman. Horace even threatened to hit Bischoff with a chair until he used it to nail
Brian Adams and let Kidman get the victory. After the match, Kidman was not happy with Horace as he apparently wasn't
in on the ruse and didn't enjoy getting beat up so badly.
Wall and Shane Douglas in an impromptu fight
Douglas, still steaming from his loss earlier, forced Ralphus out and started beating on him. Wall came out and the two
had a good short fight that ended when the Wall chokeslammed Douglas through the announcer's table.
Booker T (now known as GI Bro) defeated Shawn Stasiak
Apparently this was Booker's original moniker when he first started out (don't know for sure). Regardless of what name he
uses, he is still very over with the crowd. This was perhaps the best match of the night as GI won with a clean pinfall.
Stasiak attacked GI with a chair afterwards to get some heat back. Crowd response was good for Stasiak, great for GI.
Diamond Dallas Page Interview
DDP came out to a big pop and started insulting Eric Bischoff and Mike Awesome. Bischoff for taking credit for DDP's
success, and Awesome for injuring Kanyon. Elizabeth dragged Kimberly out at this point, and DDP proceeded to "spank"
her, much to the delight of the crowd. This ended when they showed Awesome in a hospital room with an unconscious
Kanyon. Awesome told the cameramen to cut the filming, as he would leave to DDP's imagination to what he would do
next.
Kevin Nash defeated Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner in a three-way match
Nash is the new Heavyweight champion (I almost thought they would put it on Steiner being that it was close to his
hometown). It could be argued that this match was overbooked, as both Nash and Steiner left the match due at separate
times to tend to some side business (Nash chased Russo out, and Steiner's freaks were kidnapped). Regardless, the
crowd was way into this match and Nash received a huge pop when he won the title. The crowd was happy so the match
was a success.
Tidbits
Some props should go out to Kevin Nash. He is always criticized for his work rate on the internet, but we saw him walk
into the building before the show. He was walking very slowly and gingerly on his injured ankle. When his match started,
you couldn't tell he was hurting as he put in a very good effort. The crowd was also really into him.
Two disappointments: 1) As you can tell by my e-mail address, I'm a big fan of Vampiro and he wasn't on the card; 2)
They didn't have Scott Steiner do an interview for his hometown crowd. I was surprised at this, because it would have
been huge.
Overall, a very good show. Despite what some so-called insiders say about WCW, they have improved tenfold over the
last 8-10 months. Like I said before, I was at a Thunder taping in August, and there is no comparison. There are still
some things that need to be improved on, but they are headed in the right direction.
